"As an example of this I would like to show clips of Marlee Matlin. She is a deaf actress, has won an Oscar and made an appearance on the T.V. show "Dancing With the Stars",
here is a small clip of Marlee form Dancing with the Stars.
But i would like to show a very short clip of a hearing couple dancing and then show Marlee dancing and ask if my audience if they thought one of the couples was deaf."
Then i would show some stills photos of people that are deaf, doing everyday jobs
potential jobs:
machine works
desk jods, working with numbers and figures.
a man who worked for 51 years with the same printing company. There were 2 deaf in the company and about 30-40 hearing employees.
a woman who worked for Marshall Field in data entry with the credit department. She worked there for 30 years.
jobs a deaf person has worked at:
The deaf work in any job they want. It is usually just the discrimination in getting the job.
deaf musicals.
rhoad island musical
Rhoad isl school for deaf
actors:
Deanne Bray, Marlee Matlin
deaf actors were in an episode of
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" Silencer (2007)
:Deanne Bray: best known for her work on the T..V. show Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye
Alexandria Wailes
Garrett Zuercher
Darren Frazier (from Oregon!)
Hillary Baack
Willy Conley
Raymond Luczak

This is an interesting aspect of Deaf people to talk about. Im intrested to see how ur podcast slideshow is goin to turn out:)
ReplyDeleteI feel that this is a very interesting topic for a slide show. My aunt was deaf so I'm really excited to see how this turns out. I like the idea of showing deaf people functioning in our society, showing that they are like everybody else, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThis sound like it would work well with your topic for people to be able to see how deaf people function every day just like hearing people do.
ReplyDeleteHow do you plan on setting this up? The podcast slideshow is just images and your voice. Also, I am curious to know what kinds of jobs deaf people perform. Dancing is certainly a strange one that I wouldn't expect. I know there is a band where the drummer is deaf (did you talk about this before?) Personally, I could see it being even difficult for a deaf person to be a restaurant server, but I've seen one!
